Title:
An Application of GIS/GPS and Remote Sensing Using ENVI
Description:
People seek to promote wise use of environment while supporting the local economy. Meanwhile, the application of agricultural chemicals has been linked to pollution of ground and surface waters.
The core problem with agricultural chemical mismanagement is that farm fields are spatially variable in physical properties that determine crop yield potentials. This variability leads to both over- and under-application of chemicals when conventional uniform (or blanket) application is employed. Excess fertilizer and pesticide become lost to ground and surface waters when chemicals are applied in excess of crop needs. Conversely, crop yield and quality are reduced when insufficient levels of chemical are applied to meet crop needs.
New variable-rate and global positioning system (GPS), geographical information systems (GIS), and Remote Sensing (RS) technologies can help farmers apply chemicals only as needed to different parts of fields thereby reducing input costs and increasing profitability. GPS/GIS/RS-based soil sampling, crop scouting, and aerial/space remote sensing can generate site-specific information on crop and soil variability. In addition, grain sensors linked to the GPS are available for measuring and mapping yield, protein, and moisture levels from a combine harvester.
No previous knowledge is required.

Biomedical Imaging Using Matlab
Description:
The practice of medicine and study of biology have always relied on visualization to study the relationship of anatomic structure to biologic function and to detect and treat disease and trauma that disturb or threaten normal life processes. Traditionally, these visualizations have been either direct, via surgery or biopsy, or indirect, requiring extensive mental reconstruction.
The revolutionary capabilities of new medical-imaging modalities [computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), ultrasound (US), etc.] along with computer reconstruction and rendering of multidimensional medical and histologic volume image data, obviate the need for physical dissection or abstract assembly of anatomy, and provide powerful new opportunities for medical diagnosis and treatment, as well as for biological investigations. Locked within biomedical images is significant information about the objects and their properties from which the images are derived. Efforts to unlock this information to reveal answers to the mysteries of form and function are couched in the domain of image processing and visualization.
No previous knowledge is required.
